Once upon a time a dog became your best friend. Always happy to see you. Always by your side. Always there for you. Always loyal. Always trusting you. Almost always listening to you. You went for walks and runs and explored new territories and adventures.
Max was like that with me. He had a fierce heart and a strong will. Sometimes I didn't like the things he did and I rarely would admit how much he meant to me. But I knew, deep down, how hard it would be to lose him. We spent many mornings, afternoons and evenings like this, in places where I could take off the leash and let him run and search for whatever he wanted to search for. He never strayed very far from me, except when he chased squirrels or deer or anything that looked like it needed to be chased. He would bolt like a bullet that could change directions and disappear into the brush. I could hear the leaves and sometimes see him in the distance, that dog could run. My husband, the artist Richard Wandell, passed away on December 5, 2022. Following is his biography. “A painting is never really finished, you just stop painting.” Richard Wandell was awed by art and its magical beauty for a long time and one day, after many years of lying dormant, he began to paint. It was 1994 and he had waited long enough. Now was the time he had to become what he should have been all along; he had to paint. Richard was completely self taught. He made an attempt to paint way back in 1978 but was so terrible he laid the brushes down. Then again in 1986 but oil paints were not for him.
