The Tipping Point - Best Of Show

The Cedarburg Artists Guild held it's opening reception virtually on Thursday, September 3, 2020. Richard Wandell's epic painting, titled The Tipping Point won the Blue Ribbon for Best of Show. The Tipping Point looks at the history of Black America from 1619 when the first slave ships from Africa arrived on our shores to the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. You will see a slave ship arriving, slaves herded like cattle into the hell of slavery, a slave auction, the KKK, a plantation producing cotton, Dredd Scott, Frederick Douglas, the underground railroad, the massacre in Tulsa, and much more.

The painting is powerful and emotional. The artist lists every year from 1619 to 2020 and the 8 minutes and 46 seconds that the knee was on George Floyd's neck. It gives the viewer pause when all that time is put in perspective.
