My nephew Joe took a picture one morning when he was contemplating life in a tree stand. He said it came to him that this looked like a picture I might paint. So he snapped it and sent it to me. With a few modifications, this is what I came up with. The stand he was in when he took this picture sits on farm land his father and uncle own in Vernon County, Wisconsin. Some might call this the land remembers, but that's only if you read the Ben Logan book.
My husband, the artist Richard Wandell, passed away on December 5, 2022. Following is his biography. “A painting is never really finished, you just stop painting.” Richard Wandell was awed by art and its magical beauty for a long time and one day, after many years of lying dormant, he began to paint. It was 1994 and he had waited long enough. Now was the time he had to become what he should have been all along; he had to paint. Richard was completely self taught. He made an attempt to paint way back in 1978 but was so terrible he laid the brushes down. Then again in 1986 but oil paints were not for him. Then in 1994 he dipped his brush into acrylic paints and never looked back. When Richard Wandell painted he was inspired...

Amazing painting ,Richard. The silence emanating from the deer in the field and the stand of trees ( looking-feeling) as if the branches ( people) are talking to each other. The land bringing everything together. A simplier ,less cluttered time with focus on relationships, nature and not material things. It reminds me of the little joy and wonder, of seeing the cream on a milk bottle, frozen and popping out of the top.fav fac
