2011. This is the second illustration for Susie's poem There is a Tree I will not See. At the top of the tree is a Norwegian star. I was about twelve ornaments into it, starting from the top when we took the unfinished painting to Bob and Lori's annual Christmas Eve party for the family. We set the painting up and asked for ornament requests from everyone there. That's how the rest of the tree filled out. You can see Santa, three wise men, a rocket ship, a moose, a smoke jumper, a mouse in a hammock, Noah's Ark, and even peace on earth hanging from these branches. A lot of fun to paint. The tree, of course, is the tree in the window of Christmas Eve. God bless each and every one.
My husband, the artist Richard Wandell, passed away on December 5, 2022. Following is his biography. “A painting is never really finished, you just stop painting.” Richard Wandell was awed by art and its magical beauty for a long time and one day, after many years of lying dormant, he began to paint. It was 1994 and he had waited long enough. Now was the time he had to become what he should have been all along; he had to paint. Richard was completely self taught. He made an attempt to paint way back in 1978 but was so terrible he laid the brushes down. Then again in 1986 but oil paints were not for him. Then in 1994 he dipped his brush into acrylic paints and never looked back. When Richard Wandell painted he was inspired...
